A Weekend Guide to Point Reyes Station, California

Whether you’re headed for the day or a weekend away, this guide to Point Reyes Station will give you an idea of how much there is do here. Located in Marin County along Tomales Bay, this small town is home to so much. From Point Reyes National Seashore to local farms, it has always been one of my favorite weekend escapes.

Last month I shared a three-night road trip that started in Point Reyes Station. I wanted to share a more in-depth guide if you’re looking to stay in the area longer or just head for a day trip.

Where To Stay In Point Reyes Station, California

Nick’s Cove: If there’s one thing you should book, it’s a seaside cottage at Nick’s Cove. Located just outside of town (around 10 minutes) and on the edge of Tomales Bay, it’s a stay to remember. I loved how each cottage is uniquely outfitted and has that rustic yet refined feeling to it. With breakfast included (delivered in the room), there’s a certain slow tempo to a stay here. Crackling fires at night as the sun sets over the glassy waters is something I’ll never forget.

The rooms here do book out in advance so I’d suggest reserving in advance.

Where To Eat In Point Reyes Station, California

  • Nick’s Cove Restaurant: If there’s one meal not to miss, it’s lunch or dinner at Nick’s Cove. Come here for a fresh take on local seafood and garden-picked ingredients.
  • Bovine Bakery: I always stop for a coffee and baked good here!
  • Station House Cafe: Come here for good food, a wonderful outdoor garden, and great cocktails.
  • Side Street Kitchen: This cozy spot is like a diner-style restaurant with locally sourced ingredients. I loved sitting at the bar here.
  • Saltwater Oyster Depot: Located in Inverness across the bay, I’d stop here for lunch if you’re headed to the national seashore. Their airy space is stunning and I love their brunch menu.
  • Cowgirl Creamery: It’s a Marin classic. You can stock up on everything for a cheese plate or grab a sandwich to go.
  • Osteria Stellina: For all things Italian, head straight here.

What To Do In Point Reyes Station, California

  • Point Reyes National Seashore: There is so much to discover here. I’d spend most of a day here, heading between the different attractions and hiking. Head to this link to find all of the hiking trails — my favorite is Chimney Rock.
  • Cypress Tree Tunnel: A picturesque sight in the seashore where you can walk under the towering cypress trees.
  • See the elephant seals: If you’re into wildlife, then at the end of the national seashore is a beach home to elephant seals. There’s a viewing deck and you can always hear them from far away!
  • Rent kayaks for the day: If you’re wanting to get out on the water, a kayak is a great way to explore the bay. Blue Waters is the company to go with for a rental.
  • Shop local in Point Reyes Station: Right in town is a few local boutiques to explore and can find a few goodies to bring home.
  • Tour Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese: If you’re looking to taste local cheese and tour a local farm, the Fork at Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese offers tours and events. Check their site for upcoming events.
  • Tomales Farmer’s Market: On Saturdays during the summer, head to the small town of Tomales just north of Point Reyes Station and shop local.
  • Tasting at Heidrun Meadery: One of our only meaderies in the area, this space is beautiful for a weekend tasting. I’d bring your own lunch and sit out on the patio while enjoying a tasting.
